This is the 1/1/1983 Pitt vs SMU game. The Cotton Bowl. Pitt had an absolutely loaded roster and most of the season were considered national title contenders. Disappointing losses to rivals Notre Dame and Penn State set them back a notch heading into this game. This was the peak of the Pony Express and the mustangs were loaded as well. A tie in the finall regular season game with Arkansas dropped SMU from 2 to 4 in the polls. Suffice it to say these were both loaded teams. The game MVP was SMU DB Wes Hopkins. Defense dominated and the temperature sunk to 32 degrees at kickoff time. Abnormaly cold for Dallas. I claim no rights.
