Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, joins ODI Global Chief Executive Sara Pantuliano to scrutinise the current situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and what concrete political, legal and moral shifts are urgently required.
Albanese reflects on the findings of her most recent reports – including Gaza Genocide: a collective crime – which document how not only military operations but also global supply chains, financial flows, and state inaction are enabling a system of genocide, occupation and displacement.
The conversation explores:
How the concept of “economy of occupation” has evolved into what Albanese calls an “economy of genocide” - and what this reveals about complicity across business, finance and governance.
The erosion of humanitarian and legal protection for civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, including what forced displacement, targeting of civilian infrastructure, and systemic neglect mean for international human rights law.
The responsibility of third-party states, corporations and global institutions - and the urgent reforms needed to hold them accountable.
How ordinary citizens, civil society, and international actors can respond - through advocacy, legal frameworks, financial pressure, and renewed commitment to human dignity and justice.
