As consumers of media–particularly social media–we must EVOLVE in the way we use and digest it. We must learn how to assess stories and analyze the inherent bias in all of them; we can no longer just take what we see at face value. It’s no secret that the media is under attack and the free press, a fundamental principle of our democratic society, is being threatened. By encouraging others to evaluate their media choices and look at that more objectively, we can help people to look beyond the headlines. This will aid in recognizing the importance of media in society as well as our own personal biases. Then, hopefully, that will create more civil discussion rather than online tirades and attacks that tear apart relationships. Educator. Consultant. Speaker.
Linda has a varied background that allows her to easily move between academic and business environments. She teaches undergraduate and masters level business communication courses for a number of Central Pennsylvania colleges, including HACC, Lebanon Valley, Harrisburg University and Eastern.
And, to provide even more variety in her life, she directs the social media for a local association and provides training for numerous local organizations.
When she’s not trying to learn new things, she can be found hanging out with her husband and son or pounding the pavement training for her next half or full marathon. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
