Catral is a thriving town set in the Vega Baja area of Alicante, typically Spanish yet enjoying a friendly multi national community. From the peaceful church square with its bars, townhall and it’s impressive blue domed church of Los Santos Juanes to the bustling high street you will find an atmosphere to suit every taste. The main street, Calle Purisima is a hive of activity throughout the day, boasting numerous supermarkets, restaurants including Spanish, Indian, Chinese, Argentinian, Italian, plus bars and disco pubs galore. Business wise you will find plenty of banks, lawyers, internet cafes, the town has 3 pharmacies, a medical centre, sports centre with a large communal pool, and only 3 kms away is the international campsite of Alannia with even more activities, spa, gym plus a fabulous themed pool area.
Venture along the narrow side streets of Catral and you will find traditional Spanish butchers, bakers, fruit shops and general stores. Catral is only 18 minutes from the beautiful beaches of La Marina and Guardamar, 20 minutes from the cities of Torrevieja and Elche which boasts the largest palm grove in Europe.
There is a train station situated in the nearby town of San Isidro where you can enjoy a very reasonably priced journey to the cities of Murcia and Elche, this station boasts a terminal for the soon to be operational AVE high speed train service with interchanges at Alicante for all major Spanish cities including Madrid and Barcelona.
Alicante airport can be reached in only 25 minutes.
