UPDATE 12/2020: I received the official statement from Continental in the fall - after their investigation of the tire Continental did not find any issues with the tire itself. Their conclusion was that the break-in time / distance was not sufficient. The official recommendation is to break-in the tire at moderate speeds for 100 km before going higher speeds. I was hoping to meet the experts from Conti to get a better understanding of what a break-in periods does to a tire. I hoping to do this in 2021.

Jus to give you all a better idea: I just measured the distance I was going before going to speeds over 130 km/h - it was 70km exactly before I took the bike up to 220-230 km/h the first time when I entered a section of the Autobahn that is not speed limited for a good part of a 85 km stretch. However, this stretch of Autobahn does have some sections that are speed limited (to 120-130 km/h) so I did not go flat out 220-230 km/h for the full distance. At the mid-way point I did stop to refuel - about a 10 min stop.

UPDATE June 5, 2020: The product manager from the headquarter (in Korbach) has now reached out to me responding to my email that I sent on May 21, 2020. It was a friendly email updating me on the status. Apparently this video has not only been viewed in Korbach but also in Asia, Spain, etc. - interesting to see how social media works. I did not point out that I had this video online in my initial email. Conti is analyzing the tire in Hannover now by their internal experts in what they call "Focus Prozess" to check if this issue can be traced to issue from the chemical process.

In addition to the promise to keep me up to date on their findings Conti extended an invitation to their production facility in Korbach where this tire along with many others is produced to learn about how the tires are made. A very kind gestures by Conti - it would be very interesting to learn more about motorcycle tires first hand.

My replacement tire is working flawless - I have briefly taken it up to 220 km/h and been through a full day of motorcyle safety trainig (lots of breaking etc.) - I have enough confidence to take to the track next week - of course keeping an close eye on both tires

UPDATE June 2, 2020: it has been 2 weeks and no official explanation yet from Continental!

This is what a brand new Continental Road Attack 3 rear tire looked after just 220 km of riding! I could not believe my eyes when I saw the state this tire was in after having ridden less than two hours with a new rear tire. I checked the tire pressure before my ride (the front was low so I added some air) and started with moderate speeds before hitting the Autobahn with no speed limit- I was riding at speeds over 220 km/h on the Autobahn just before I noticed that this tire had completly lost its tread in the middle of the tire.

This tire was very close to complete failure and my ride could have very well ended in the funeral home that day!

See the video for the story of what has happend so far. My tire shop has since replaced the tire but at the posting of this video I have not heard from Continental yet.

Please keep a close eye on your tires - especially if you are running Continental Road Attack 3 tires from 04/20 (week 4 of 2020).
