We are excited to give our supporters a small update on the European pond turtle project. Please do bear in mind that the site is expecting the release of animals in 2026 - no animals are currently at the site and the finishing touches are currently taking place. Also, this is a scientific trial - not a reintroduction - within an enclosed area to test whether the species can breed in this climate and whether their feeding habits will be beneficial to the water quality of ponds the species inhabits. We are completely open-minded with the results of this trial; anticipating that it is possible that the European pond turtle is unsuitable to further such conservation in this country.
