Elden Ring: Nightreign - All Nightlords, Solo Ironeye

Elden Ring: Nightreign came out a couple weeks ago, and it's all I've been playing ever since.
Nightreign is FromSoftware trying something new and experimental with multiplayer in a Souls game. You have eight preset characters to play as, with no stat or skill customization - every time you level up, your stats increase in a predetermined way. You then pick a Nightlord to hunt, drop into the island with two other people, and progress through each day as the death ring closes in on you. The map is mostly predetermined, but the locations of each enemy base changes randomly every time you play. Several things are always the same though, including all the "shifting worlds" that appear as you progress through the game. Those are areas that alter a portion of the map, replacing it with a magma cavern that goes deep into the earth, a poison swamp (a requirement in every Souls game), an icy mountain, or a huge and overly complex castle.
People compare Nightreign to roguelikes, but the only stuff that's truly random is the loot each enemy drops, and which minibosses appear. To me, it feels more like From turned Elden Ring into an arcade game, because the random elements don't have as big of an effect on your outcome as it does in practically every other roguelike I've played. It does have permanent progression elements in the form of 'runes' though (3 stones you can equip on your characters that provide buffs).

While Nightreign is meant to be a multiplayer game, it's totally playable solo, and the enemies scale appropriately. The most notable change is that when you die in multiplayer, your partners can hit your body to revive you. That's not possible when you're playing solo, so instead, they give you one free revive for each boss at the end of the three days, and you can also buy an item that revives you from the merchants for 10,000 relics, I believe (I use a rune that gives me a discount, so it only costs 9000). Not all characters are created equal for solo play - some are going to have a much harder time than others. I've played for 60+ hours and 98% of that was with Ironeye, the archer, but from what I've heard, Raider is the easiest to solo with, and the squishy characters that can only take one or two hits are the hardest. I think Ironeye is pretty strong since you don't always have to get close enough to enemies for them to hit you, but he does die pretty quick. Thankfully, if you progress through the first two days even somewhat smartly, you'll always have plenty of resources to deal clear each day. Unfortunately though, there's no way to endlessly practice the bosses, so I'm still bad at most of them. I've only done some of these fights a few times, and I only beat them solo once or twice, for the most part (I did a few of them multiple times because my first run or two was a lot worse than the ones in this video, lol).

The developers have said they'll be adding duo play (instead of always needing a third person), and souped up versions of the Nightlords to the game soon. The season pass will also have new characters to play as, and new bosses to fight. So I already think this game has by far the best multiplayer I've ever seen in a Souls game, and it's only going to get better with all of the updates and DLC that's coming. I hope they bolt this on to every Souls game they make going forward, or just keep doing Nightreign-esque expansions. You don't even need to play the original game to enjoy this, though having some knowledge will help a lot.
