As coastal and offshore industries continue to expand, the need for robust, science-based guidance to safeguard marine biodiversity is more important than ever.
The MARCIS tool has been designed to assess the cumulative impact of marine stressors on seabird populations and can be used as a decision support tool to support marine spatial planning.
In this webinar you will:
• Receive an introduction to the scientific foundation of MARCIS and the MARCIS tool
• Experience how the web-based tool allows users to visualize and quantify cumulative impacts on seabirds and migrating land birds
• Learn how MARCIS can support policy development, planning processes, and environmental impact assessments
Whether you work in government, industry, research, or conservation, MARCIS offers new insights into the cumulative impact on seabirds based on their year-round distribution and population impact. The tool will help balance blue growth with the responsibility to protect vulnerable seabird populations.
MARCIS brings together detailed spatial data on marine industries and seabird populations’ year-round distribution, cutting-edge assessments of population and species sensitivity to stressors, and analyses of cumulative impacts from offshore windfarms, fisheries, oil and gas operations, shipping and climate change.
MARCIS is a four-year research project (2021 – 2025) financed by the Research Council of Norway. The MARCIS tool was developed in collaboration with industry, NGOs, interest groups, regulatory authorities, and academic partners from Norway and the United Kingdom.
