DoD Instruction 5000.93 states that the DoD will seek to use additive manufacturing to support joint Force commanders and Combatant Command theater requirements, transform maintenance operations and supply chains, increase logistics resiliency, and improve self sustainment and readiness for the military services.
The National Institute for Aviation Research at Wichita State University (NIAR) is supporting this mission by enabling adoption of additive manufacturing across industrial applications.
We have adopted the goal to increase additive manufacturing capacity 10 times by 2027. NIAR is teaming with the DoD and industry to apply Wichita's deep aerospace routes to accelerate the application of advanced manufacturing from cradle to grave for defense applications.
From engineering legacy and new systems, to the generation of advanced material data through the development of the additive manufacturing processes, all the way to the qualification of additive parts for critical applications.
10X by 2027 cannot be achieved unless we are all working together.
