Today, our cameras captured the heavy-handed presence of security agencies across Kampala and its suburbs. From Kawempe to Kisekka Market, the presence of armored personnel carriers (Mambas) and unmarked "drone" vans has become the new normal, creating a state of psychological warfare against peaceful citizens.
The Current State of Intimidation:
The Neighborhood Siege: Beyond the high-profile blockade at Magere, entire neighborhoods are being subjected to "stop and search" operations. Citizens are being asked to provide "proof of destination" simply for walking to work.
Armed Foot Patrols: Heavily armed soldiers in battle gear are conducting foot patrols in residential areas, a move seen as a direct attempt to prevent any spontaneous gatherings or protests against the disputed results.
Business Paralysis: Due to the intimidation, many businesses in the city center remain shuttered. Traders report being told by security officers to "go home and stay quiet" if they want to remain safe.
The "Silent" Crackdown: With the internet still partially restricted, these daily acts of intimidation go largely unreported by mainstream media.
