日本六古窯の一つで、その発生は平安時代にまで遡る。焼き締めや灰釉・鉄釉を基調とした素朴な肌合が特徴。成形はろくろ、たたら成形のほか、越前独特のねじ立て成形（輪積み）が今なお継承されている。
Echizen-yaki is one of the famous "Six Old Kilns" of Japan with a history of more than 850 years old, beginning from the Heian Period. The distinctive feature of Echizen Pottery is its rustic and natural feel, achieved through a high temperature firing process called Yakishime and using only natural ashes as glazing. Echizen-yaki pieces are technique (using thin slices of wood) and Echizen's very own Nejitate technique (coiling technique).
