This video shows a "perfect" playthrough of Night Trap for the Sega 32X video game console (with Sega CD attachment).
Night Trap (for the Sega CD) is notable for being one of the the first interactive movies to feature live actors, and also for having its action occur as eight simultaneous threads, each taking place in a different area of a house.
The purpose of this video is to show how the threads in the game are intertwined to comprise the whole experience, and also to show what the game might look like if it were to be remade as a "real" experience of monitoring a house and trapping bad guys via a security system.
Night Trap (and also its cousin Double Switch) seem to get a lot of derision for their game play, but as I put together this video I realized that NT isn't actually all that different from the games in the Five Nights at Freddy's series -- they're all basically just whack-a-mole games with a story. The difference is that the events in NT are (mostly) fixed, leading to a near identical experience during each playthrough, but the AI in FNaF results in each playthrough being at least a little different. Both games present the same storyline for each playthrough no matter what, though. FNaF shows what Night Trap could have been if the tech at the time had allowed for more randomness in terms of game play.
The video and audio clips used for this video were not captured from a 32X console or an emulator, but rather were decoded straight from the files on the CD-ROM using a decoder I wrote with the kind help of a person who goes by the handle "TascoDLX". The names of the video files in the game are codes that include the SMPTE timecode, room number, and branch number, making it pretty easy to lay out the complete story in a video sequencer.
I took some liberties with the timing of some of the scenes, fixed some continuity errors, and added a few enemy captures that weren't possible in the original game.
