Art Casting Collab With @davidperrett4164 and @100mileartsnetwork - Boulder Update and Trees

An update on the boulder project. It has a name: Geological Study Number 3. Yes there were a #1 and 2.

Also a visit from the 100 Mile Arts Network, who are doing a profile on David and his work. They sent a film crew to interview him and film a pour. So we made some experimental castings to give them a bit of a show.

Years ago David made some huge tree trunk weeble wobbles:

Super cool, but too big for your living room and the wood would rot if you left them outside. So today we experimented with casting metal tree bark. I think the goal is to make metal giant wooden tree weeble wobbles that could survive the outdoors. Except... apparently small enough to keep in your living room. Miniature giant metal wooden tree weeble wobbles? 😁

Worried about loose sand grains falling from the cope and ruining the drag side of castings when making his own molds, David wanted to experiment with molding parts in the cope instead of the drag, so in theory any inclusions would appear on the back side of the casting. And with using extruded aluminum scrap, because it should make the castings possible to anodize. This combination along with a lack of feeders caused the shrinkage defects that appeared exactly where I should have predicted them. A good lesson here about shrinkage and mold design and alloy choice.
