আর্যরা ভারতীয় নাকি তারা বহিরাগত? -এই বিতর্ক বহুদিনের। যার একদিকে রয়েছে আর্য আক্রমণ তত্ত্ব (AIT) অন্যদিকে রয়েছে ভারত থেকে নির্গমন তত্ত্ব (OIT)। AIT মতে ইন্দো ইউরোপীয় ভাষা ও আর্যরা মধ্য এশিয়া থেকে ভারতে এসেছিলেন, আর OIT বলছে ভারতই আর্যদের ধাত্রীভূমি, সংস্কৃতই বাংলা, অসমীয়া, ইংরেজি, জার্মান ইত্যাদি ইন্দো ইউরোপীয়র ভাষার জননী। ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশের ধর্ম সিরিজের প্রথম পর্বে আমরা আলোচনা করেছি সিন্দু সভ্যতার ধর্ম নিয়ে, তারপর এই দ্বিতীয় পর্বে বৈদিক ধর্মের ইতিহাস আলোচনা করার আগে তাই এটা স্পষ্ট করা প্রয়োজন আর্যরা ভারতীয় নাকি তারা সত্যিই বহিরাগত। শুধু ধর্মের ইতিহাস নয়, ভারতের ইতিহাসেও যেটা খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রাসঙ্গিক একটা প্রশ্ন।

Are the Aryans native to India, or are they outsiders?" — this debate has persisted for a long time. On one side stands the Aryan Invasion Theory (AIT), while on the other is the Out of India Theory (OIT). According to AIT, Indo-European languages and the Aryans came to India from Central Asia, whereas OIT posits that India itself is the homeland of the Aryans, and Sanskrit is the mother of Indo-European languages like Bengali, Assamese, English, German, and others.
