Earth Pyramids in Renon/Ritten, South Tyrol scenic walk. Bolzano Bozen day trip. Cable car and train

Starting from Verona, we took an early morning train to Bolzano. The Journey was around 2 hours. We arrived at Bolzano at around 9:30 am. We headed straight to the cable car station which is about half a kilometer away.
There was only a short queue at the ticket office and I was advised to best get the combo ticket since we intend to take the train at the top. There is a quick turn around of cable cars and are big capacity and therefore we didn't have to wait long to ride one. Once we got to Soprabolzano (Upper Bolzano), just out side the cable car station is the station for the narrow gauge train. It's half hourly service and can get busy during the summer. We were lucky to find a seat as the train was packed. The journey to Collalbo takes less than 20 minutes. If we had more time, it would be nice to walk this route as it is quite scenic. It is called the Freud promenade as the famous Austrian Sigmund Freud used to walk this path on his holiday in this beautiful plateau, estimated time for the walk is 1.5 hours.
It was a 1.5 mile scenic walk to the earth pyramids from Collalbo. There are plenty of sign to follow and it is hard to get lost. There were also plenty of tourists heading (and returning) to the same direction.
We're not able to get close to the earth pyramids but I suppose it's a good thing appreciating it from a distance to ensure it is left undisturbed. We headed back to Collalbo and boarded the train back to Soprabolzano and then went straight to the cable car to head back down to Bolzano.
Bolzano / Bozen is a cultural melting pot and small cosmopolitan city. It is the largest city in South Tyrol at the crossroads of northern European and southern culture.
This city developed in the Middle Ages. Today, it’s a palce where the Italian and the German cultures mix most intensely. The result is a fascinating and extraordinary cultural mix that is reflected in the language of people, in traffic signs, food and drink and of course in the historical and artistic attractions of the city.
