Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at installing the Draw-Tite class four trailer hitch receiver on a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now this is what our hitch looks like when it's installed and that's right, it is installed. The best part about it is it is completely hidden until you're ready to use it. You can just simply lower this access panel. Pop this down.

And now you have access to the hitch receiver. Now, the reason that is, is because this has a hidden cross tube and it does hide behind this factory panel really well. And it's really nice because you're gonna retain that completely OEM look. And you still have quite a bit of carrying capacity on this hitch. Being a class four trailer hitch receiver the glory of that is gonna be some solid numbers when it comes to towing.

And in fact, this one has a weight capacity for your gross trailer, weight rating of 7,500 pounds which is gonna be the weight of the trailer, plus the accessories loaded up. Now your tongue weight rating is gonna be 1,125 pounds which is gonna be the downward pressure that's put on the inside of the receiver tube opening. So that's gonna be some of your suspended accessories like your cargo carries, your bike racks which that is a pretty solid number. We really don't have to worry too much about overloading that. Now if you are planning on towing you're gonna see you have a plate style safety chain loop here.

And with this panel out of the way it makes it pretty easy to get your hooks in place. It's a little trickier than some but you are still able to hook up decently. Now your larger clevis style hook might be a little bit trickier but you can still get it on there, decently. And when you are putting your ball Mount or your accessories in place, you're gonna have a five eighths hitch pin hole. And that way you can hold your accessories in with your pin and clip.

Now, the hitch does not come with one. A lot of times, your accessories will come with it though. And if you wanna pick up a locking version we have plenty of options available here at each etrailer. That way you can leave your accessories on, lock it in place and they're gonna stay on there until you remove it with a key. Now we're not gonna have any ground clearance issues because this does sit up higher than the fascia. So that's gonna be great. Uh, we're gonna also measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest point of the rear fascia. We're looking at right about three and a half inches and that's gonna be important for some of your accessories that fold like your cargo carriers or bike racks, 'cause in that stowed position you wanna make sure that you're not making contact with the rear fascia causing damage to it but that does give you a small little measurement there and you should be okay with most accessories. Now this hitch does have a lot going for it and the fact that it's a class four, so you have really really solid towing capacity compared to some of the other hitches. And the fact that it is hidden behind this panel really is a nice option. Now the caveat to that is gonna be that the installation on this is a little bit trickier than some of the others and it's not necessarily hard, but it is a little bit uh, you gotta finesse it a little bit more and the reason being is you're gonna be drilling out some rivets and you're gonna need a plastic rivet gun to get the new ones back in place once you reinstall the fascia and also to get the fascia off, which you will be removing it, because it replaces that factory bumper. This one actually goes into the chassis frame rails. You are gonna pull back on the outer fender that's on the side of the vehicle and there is some adhesive that's on there from the factory. So you kind of have to pry that back. And sometimes when you peel those back it doesn't really want to go back perfectly. Now we we're able to do it and still make it look really good. It just takes a little bit more time and finesse and you really want to be careful. So highly suggest having some plastic trim panel tools. We have those available here at etrailer and that's just gonna make sure that you're not damaging your paint while removing and installing your fascia.
