Chris While & Julie Matthews perform ‘The Waiting Room’ to Tom, the man who inspired it.
They wrote the song for 21st Century Folk, Radio 2’s series that sees five people have songs written about their lives.
Tom was born out of wedlock to Irish parents in 1965. When he was two weeks old, his birth mother left him in a waiting room at Reading station, tucked under a seat with a bottle and some spare clothes. Tom went on to have a happy childhood with a loving family.
