The Soul selects her own Society written by Emily Dickinson was probably written around 1862 and was published posthumously in 1890. The poem has three stanza of four lines with ABAB as rhyme scheme.In the poem, Emily says that soul is very selective while choosing her companion and then shuts the door for others. For Emily Dickinson the soul is that part of the psyche which runs away from the public attention and seeks inner solace from silence, the arts, nature and the divine.
The poem focuses on Self-reliance and Individuality.
