Forest fires – also referred to as wildfires and bushfires – pose a growing threat to human life, which a deep understanding of wildfire evacuation can help to mitigate. The Workshop on Wildfire Human Behaviour and Evacuation Modelling addresses key considerations for those planning and managing large-scale evacuations arising from wildfires. A particular focus of the workshop is how the intricate moving parts of hazard (fire and smoke)-pedestrian-vehicle dynamics can be brought together in urban-scale agent-based evacuation simulations. The development of reliable models will be critical if they are to assist incident managers to design optimal evacuation strategies in the face of the daunting array of variables inherent in an evolving wildfire incident.
The slides from this presentation are available within the workshop proceedings which can be downloaded from the evacuation workshop website.
