Paramedic Ellie shares her tips.
DO:
✔️ Seek help immediately if you suspect you've been bitten - bite marks may not be obvious.
✔️ DRABCD.
✔️ Call Triple Zero (000).
✔️ Keep the patient still and reassure them.
✔️ Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage.
✔️ Splint the limb to prevent movement.
✔️ Wait with the patient until help arrives.
DON'T:
❌ Attempt to catch or kill a snake.
❌ Wash the bite site.
❌ Cut the bite site.
❌ Apply a tourniquet.
❌ Remove the bandage - even if the patient feels well.
❌ Make the person walk to the rescue vehicle.
