The Battle Hymn of The United States Marine Corps begins with the line “From the Halls Of Montezuma”. Though the song is well known, the origins of the line have largely gone forgotten by mainstream history outlets. But it was just outside of Mexico city, in a giant stone castle, where the national lore of both the United States and Mexico would be forever changed.
Chapultepec Castle stood as the last line of Mexican defense between the invading American forces and the capital of Mexico City. In a desperate bid to protect their homeland, several of the teenaged cadets from the National Military Academy have volunteered to stay and fight alongside their comrades against the oncoming United States Army and Marine Corps.
The Marines, for their part, had been tasked with the seemingly impossible mission of scaling the formidable castle walls with ladders and climbing ropes, amidst a hail of rifle and cannon fire.
The battle began at dawn on September 13th, and by noon, the fate of each nation would be forever altered.
