🚗🇶🇦 Qatar Launches Vehicle Number Plate Replacement Project

The Ministry of Interior has officially announced the launch of a national project to replace existing vehicle number plates with a new, modern design aligned with international standards and smart traffic technologies.

This project aims to:
✔️ Strengthen the visual identity of vehicle plates
✔️ Standardize numbering criteria
✔️ Support smart traffic systems
✔️ Prepare for future growth in vehicle numbers

🔹 Implementation Phases:

🔸 Phase 1 – Premium Plates (Sooum App)
The letter “Q” will be allocated to vehicles whose owners obtain special plate numbers through the Sooum application.
📅 13 – 16 December 2025

🔸 Phase 2 – New Vehicle Registrations
New plates will be issued to private vehicles registered for the first time, using available letters such as Q, T, or R, according to the approved sequence.
📅 Starting 1 April 2026

🔸 Phase 3 – Existing Private Vehicles
All currently registered private vehicles will have their plates replaced by adding the letter “Q” to the existing number, according to schedules to be announced later.
Future phases will also include non-private vehicles, with two letters added to their plate numbers.

🔔 Until official timelines are announced, current plates remain valid for renewals and replacements due to damage.

This initiative reflects the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to modernizing traffic services and enhancing efficiency in line with best international practices.
