When they are inaugurated, presidents take an oath “to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.” That fundamental “preservative” authority has shaped the presidency since the beginning. We judge presidents most by how secure they make us feel, especially in the midst of a crisis.
This is the recording of the celebration of Constitution Day 2025 with a lecture on the crisis presidency by Dr. Benjamin A. Kleinerman, R.W. Morrison Professor of Political Science at Baylor University.
