As part of Phase 2 of Vanni Hope’s Cyclone Ditwah Emergency Response, livelihood assistance was provided to families affected by landslides and heavy rainfall in Lawson Street, Nuwara Eliya. This urban area experienced significant damage following extreme weather, leaving households struggling to continue daily life safely and independently.
A total of 15 families, representing 68 individuals, were affected. This included households of teachers from CP. N. Good Rest Convent School, whose homes and frequently used facilities were damaged by flooding. Residents reported ongoing transportation difficulties, safety concerns, and limited access to essential resources.
To support recovery and restore basic living conditions, Vanni Hope provided livelihood assistance to all affected families. Items distributed included gas cookers, rice cookers, mattresses, and kettles, helping households resume cooking, resting safely, and managing daily needs.
This intervention reflects the transition into Phase 2 of our emergency response, focusing on restoring dignity, stability, and self-reliance for families as they recover from the impacts of Cyclone Ditwah.
