The Florida Mullet Run happens every September through November as millions of bait fish migrate using safety in numbers to shield from predators as they travel South from the Carolina’s and down through South Florida. The goal, to spawn offshore.
They travel tightly along the beaches, feeding on microorganisms. Their only chance at survival and procreation is to stay together by forming massive pods resembling oil slicks in the water.
Predators take notice of the wind shift and drop in water temperature as they head to the beaches in search of the GREAT phenomena known as the MULLET RUN. Tarpon, Sharks, Snook, Bluefish and Jacks are commonly seen feeding on the large schools of mullet.
As they reach their furthermost south point, they turn east to spawn. The strong current of the gulf stream carries the larval North back to their homes and this great phenomenon happens once again, one year later.
