Wirecard Scandal - Who is and where is Jan Marsalek? Financial scandals have always been part and parcel to the financial world, since the very beginning. From Enron to Parmalat, to Bernie Madoff, to Wirecard, which is the most recent of them all. In this video, we focus on Jan Marsalek, a controversial character who acted as chief operating officer at Wirecard and right-arm of Markus Braun.

All major countries, all major markets and no matter how sophisticated the regulatory supervision is, there is no way to totally avoid fraudulent behavior.
Money is the reason for many human behaviors. You could argue that people have been increasingly interested in money and making money in the modern world. Globalization, increased economic welfare and the exponential growth of the financial markets have created a lot of legitimate opportunities for market participants, but, arguably, an equally exponential amount of opportunity for fraud and illegal behavior. There have been financial frauds since the Roman empire, people have created Ponzi schemes thousands if not millions of times and someone even tried to sell the Eiffel Tower. Different fraud schemes have different levels of success, but some were incredibly successful and even had support from the government and watchdogs that should have been cracking down on financial frauds. These stories often make me think of the quote from the Usual Suspects, when the bad guy says: “The greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world he did not exist”.
