Today my Mom is showing Mackenzie and I how to make Red Velvet cake.
Plus I've added some of the funny moments we had in the making of this recipe.

Red Velvet Cake Recipe
1 t. vinegar
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
2 c. flour
1 T. cocoa
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. red food coloring (or less if desired)
1 T. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk
Mix together the vinegar and baking soda; set aside. Sift together salt, flour, and cocoa. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add food coloring and vanilla. Add buttermilk alternately with flour mixture; beat on high speed for 2 minutes. Fold in vinegar mixture. Pour into greased layer pans or muffin tins. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Prepare Frosting and spread over cooled cake.
Frosting:
1/4 c. flour
1 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
Mix together and cook over med heat until thickened like pudding, stirring to prevent lumping and sticking; set aside to cool.
1 c. sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
2 t. vanilla
Mix all together beating until fluffy. Add cooled milk mixture and beat until fluffy. Spread over Cake.
