Living underwater has always been a dream, if an uncomfortable one, but now it promises to be a reality - something humans are going to consider normal. We explore the fascinating older designs like that of Conshelf, Jacques Cousteau’s pioneering underwater habitat experiments, in which they thought it was OK to drink wine and smoke! We bring it right up to date with the latest developments of Sentinel by Deep, a revolutionary modular underwater station designed to support long-term human presence beneath the ocean.
Join us as we speak with Phil Short, research lead at Deep, about the science behind Sentinel and the incredible benefits of living underwater—from conducting long-term studies on marine ecosystems to gaining new insights into climate change. We also tackle the practicalities of life below the surface, including the challenges of saturation diving and the less glamorous but essential question: how do you deal with toilet waste underwater?
Guiding us through this immersive experience is John Ruthven, producer of Blue Planet, reporting from inside a mock-up of Nemo’s submarine. Plus, we take a look at the novel designs of Phil Pauley, whose futuristic concepts push the boundaries of underwater living.
Prepare to rethink life as we know it—because the ocean might just be humanity’s next frontier. 🌊
