"I Wanted Wings" (1941) - William Holden & Veronica Lake WW2 Air Corps Drama

The personal and professional lives of three men from different walks of life who join the U.S. Army Air Corps are depicted. A playboy (Ray Milland), a mechanic (William Holden) and a football star (Wayne Morris) become Army Air Corps pilots. Based on the book "I Wanted Wings"
by Lt. Beirne Lay Jr. and published in 1937.

The supporting cast includes Brian Donlevy, Constance Moore and Veronica Lake. This movie features Lake's first major film role. Her career took off shortly thereafter. Lake would become one of the most popular and successful actresses of the early 1940s.

Production began in the summer of 1940 at Randolph Field near San Antonio, Texas. The United States Army Air Corps provided 1,160 aircraft, 1,050 cadets, 450 officers and instructors and 2,543 enlisted men for the film. An amazing glimpse of the U.S. Army Air Corps just before the outbreak of WW2.
