Debo Nwauzu speaks to Leslie Thomas QC, barrister at Garden Court Chambers. Leslie, known for representing bereaved families in high profile cases against the Police, particularly in cases of death in police custody caused by restraint preventing breathing or adequate breathing known as positional asphyxia. Leslie spoke of those cases including representing the Mark Duggan family –Mark was the man whose death sparked the Tottenham riot, which case that most traumatised him, changing legal history in securing the first unlawful killing decision against a serving British police officer and the tragedy in the Arsema Dawit Inquest -a 15 year old Eritrean girl stabbed to death 60 times, 4 weeks after her family reported him to the Police but they failed to take appropriate action.
