This is a compilation of my undergraduate experience over the past 4 years. Within this short period of time, I’ve been able to experience so much thanks to the people around me, and I wanted to memorialize it in the ways I enjoy the most: photos, videos, and music. In a sense, long after I graduate, I want to be able to look back at some of the precious moments I spent with the people I’m lucky to call friends; my memories of these moments might fade with time, but this video will always remain the way it is now. Perhaps this sentiment can best be summarized by Himmel from Frieren: 「未来で一人ぼっちにならないようにするためかな。おとぎ話じゃない。僕達は確かに実在したんだ。」(It’s so you won’t be alone in the future. We aren’t fairy tails; we actually existed).
Of course, I could not fit everything and everyone within the span of 5.5 minutes, but I tried my hardest to include as many different people from as many different activities and interactions as I could. Inevitably, some moments and names will have slipped from my head, so if I forgot to mention you, I’m sorry. With that being said, as I did not have any more space to fit any more people and groups, I did want to give a shoutout to the East Bay Bike Party for being an awesome community of bikers as well as the rest of BicyCal for teaching me about bicycle maintenance and well as just being able to hang out in the shop for a good time or go on fun group (goon) rides.
As I definitely have said multiple times already, I could not have done any of this myself; this endeavor was most definitely a group effort. I want to thank the people that helped to capture some of the moments that we shared as well as those that I’ve bugged to sing along and potentially embarrass themselves on the internet because of my karaoke obsession. But most of all, I wanted to thank everyone that helped to make my undergraduate experience an adventure of a lifetime, whether at Berkeley, Argonne, Japan, New York, or back home in Monterey Park. No part of this video is in any way professional—from the cinematography to the editing to the singing—but I think it's more fun that way, not having any worries about other's expectations and stuff like that. To steal another quote from Frieren: 「くだらなくてとても楽しい旅だったってよ。」 (It was an utterly ridiculous journey, but I had a lot of fun along the way).
This one's for you, 阿婆.
POST-UPLOAD NOTE: If you would like to see a spiritual part two to this video that focuses exclusively on BicyCal—which is where I have spent the majority of my last 8 or so weeks of undergrad and have had so many fun experiences throughout that short period of time—here is the link: • The BicyCal Special
