Ey up, piscators. Although we’re now in October, the daytime temperatures are still quite warm when the wind drops. I had an afternoon to myself, so I decided to go to Findern on the Trent & Mersey Canal as I’d not been there for a while. I wanted to use my Hardy Altex as it hasn’t been out for some time, and I paired the reel with my A. Carter split cane rod and a quill float. After a slow start at one spot, I moved near a bridge and managed a few small perch before it was time to pack up. The sharp-eyed amongst you may notice the line guide on the tip of the rod is missing later in the video. I managed to catch the tip on the ground when I moved swims, and the rod broke where the line guide meets the rod, so I’ll whip it back on, and the rod will be an inch shorter. A job for the weekend.
