Weather in Uruguay 🇺🇾

Uruguay is a temperate country with four seasons ☀️🍂❄️🌷 It is NOT tropical.

We have different seasons that are the other way around from the Northern Hemisphere. So, our summer is your winter, our fall is your spring (we’re assuming—like most of our readers—you are reading this in North America or Europe).

What are the seasons like? Summer is from December to February ☀️ These are the hottest months of the year with temperatures around 90°F. The hottest days tend to be around New Year, where it could go up to a hundred degrees for a few days. Periodic rain and cloud can hit at any point. 🌧️

Fall in Uruguay falls (ha ha) between March and May. It's particularly lovely weather-wise. Days are mild, like about 70 degrees 🌡️ It's T-shirt weather during the day, and in the evening, you'll wanna wear a jacket.
One thing to know is that you can swim in the ocean right up to April, and maybe even May, if you're a European. Uruguayans will be horrified with me saying this 😅 But yeah, you can swim right up until April comfortably because the waters have been warmed up throughout the summer. 🏊‍♂️

Winter is from June till August. Despite reasonably balmy temperatures, we're talking about 60 degrees Fahrenheit, you can expect it to feel significantly colder. That is because of the damp or humidity that there is here in Uruguay.

Uruguay is on the Atlantic and everything is affected by the ocean 🌊 It does feel significantly warmer inland, but fortunately, even during the coldest months, there's always six to seven hours of sunlight every day. And it's rare to have rain for longer than, say, five days at a time, and then the sun will come out again and it'll be lovely all over 🌞

Spring is from September to November. Just like autumn, it's one of the most lovely times of year. It may be fine for swimming, if you're a European. And days are mild, although there can still be cold snaps for sure.
