2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV) For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.
Devotional
Paul is writing from prison because of his preaching of the gospel. He’s facing hardship, but he sees his suffering as a direct result of faithfully serving Christ.
In the Roman world, imprisonment was seen as disgraceful. But Paul refuses to be embarrassed or discouraged, because he knows his suffering is for the sake of Christ and the truth.
For I know whom I have believed, shows that Paul’s confidence isn’t in himself, in luck, or even in his own ministry success, it’s in a Person: Jesus Christ. His relationship with Christ is personal and certain, not abstract.
what I have committed, refers to Paul’s very life, soul, and eternal destiny. Paul has entrusted himself entirely to Christ’s care, like a deposit placed in a bank for safekeeping.
Until that That Day, refers to the future day of Christ’s return and final judgment. Paul’s assurance is that Jesus will guard his soul until that day when all will be revealed and rewarded.
