Two weeks after he was released on medical parole, Jacob Zuma's lawyer says he did not attend his corruption trial hearing on Tuesday as he is currently receiving medical treatment in Gauteng and was advised by his doctors not to travel.
Zuma agreed his application for a "special plea"- in which he argues the entire National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) lacks the title to try him for corruption and he should be summarily acquitted - could be heard in his absence.
While the NPA has subpoenaed the Department of Correctional Services for Zuma's health records, his advocate, Dali Mpofu, has strongly objected to those records being handed over to Judge Piet Koen.
