Planning a trip to Newquay and wondering if Fistral Beach and Towan Headland are worth a full day, or just a quick stop? In this Cornwall guide I walk you through what it’s really like – from parking and crowds to surf conditions, dog rules and that big Atlantic view from the headland.
Fistral is the classic Newquay surf beach – long sandy bay, surf schools, cafés, bars and everything in one place. It’s brilliant if you want an easy beach day with facilities right behind you, or you’ve got teens keen to surf. But it can be busy, the car park can be stressful, and costs can stack up if you’re not prepared.
Just above the beach you’ve got Towan Headland, which turns it from a straight beach day into a proper coastal outing. You can walk up from Fistral in a few minutes, escape the crowds, and get huge views over Fistral, Pentire and Newquay Bay. On the right day it’s a cracking short walk, and if the tide’s right you’ve even got Little Fistral tucked below the cliffs.
If you’re planning things to do in Cornwall around Newquay and you want to know if Fistral Beach and Towan Headland deserve a place on your list, this should help you work out if it actually suits you, your group and your budget.
