“Wororo”, the third single from our new album Beyond Music Vol.3 - Conflict, is a psychedelic-funky fusion of afrobeat and jazz music. It describes the modern obsession with material wealth and living the easy life, leading to external or internal conflicts. This urge is often developed at a young age, when we’re presented with ideals we think we have to achieve in order to be happy. “Wororo” was written by Fatime Songoro from Hungary, Makadem from Kenya, Msafiri Zawose from Tanzania, Nic Legacy from Canada and Tefo Mahola from South Africa. It features lyrics in four languages: Swahili, English, Hungarian and Xhosa. What unites these five artists is their approach to challenging the listener to see beyond their superficial desires and appreciate what they already have. With a cello, viola and two violins, the track also features a string arrangement from the highly-acclaimed Columbian composer and Beyond Music member Juan Andrés Ospina.

The aim is to connect the dots of talent world-wide, and to unite and inspire the artists through the ability of exploring completely novel groupings of collaboration. Artists are given instant access to colleagues in some of the most far-fetched locations, using some of the most unique musical instruments. Each year, there is a new musical theme to which collaborations are submitted for the chance to appear on the Beyond Music albums. The winning collaborators are awarded with prize money of up to 80,000 US dollars. Under the musical theme conflict, this year’s Vol.3 album was produced by four-time GRAMMY Award-winners Michael League and Bill Laurance of the music collective Snarky Puppy.

140 music pieces by a total of 850 collaborating artists were submitted. “Wororo” was selected by Michael League and Bill Laurance as one of the 16 songs for the Beyond Music album Vol.3.

“Our heads were bobbing from the first bar of Wororo. Rhythm reigns supreme here, both in the wonderful performance from the rhythm section and in the vocal parts, which invite the listener to join in on the chorus instantly. We were both big fans of the lo-fi, gritty bass and drum sounds, as well as the fluttery synth parts, giving Wororo a striking push in a non-conventional direction"
