Self-awareness for Kids: Growth Mindset | Positive Self-Talk for Elementary Students

Teach your kids about growth mindset and positive self-talk. Annie is having trouble completing her project and her self-talk is repeating over and over how horrible she is. Rocco encourages Annie to understand that negative self-talk is self-defeating. Negative self-talk will not help her complete her project, it will actually impede her progress. He convinces her to change her perspective and realize that learning something new and big projects take time and effort. Positive self-talk can be truthful as the expression is objective, changing from "I'm horrible at this," to "These things take time," and "I can do this". Positive self-talk can be motivating in many ways. It's important for students to engage in positive self-talk in order to overcome obstacles and face the many challenges they face on a day-to-day basis.
