Our minds can become a battleground, especially in busy seasons like the holidays. We assume what others think, build stories in our head, and then live inside those stories. The result is anxiety, isolation, and spiritual desolation.
In “Ruling Your Inner World,” we walk through an Orthodox approach to thoughts (logismoi), why feelings are real but not always true, and how to discern what is from God versus what pulls us away from Him. We look at Psalm 42:5, Christ’s victory over temptation, and wisdom from the Desert Fathers to learn a simple but life-changing skill: thoughts are guests, not masters.
You will also get practical tools to respond in the moment:
How to name the thought
How to test whether it is true
How to recognize it by its fruit
How to identify spiritual consolation vs. desolation
What to do when you feel stuck in darkness (4 concrete steps)
The goal is not to “never have thoughts,” but to become a steward of your inner world so your mind can be set on things above, and your heart can live in peace, courage, repentance, and love.
Scripture referenced: Psalm 42:5; 2 Corinthians 10:5 (thoughts into captivity); John 8:32; John 6:37; Colossians 3:2; Philippians 2:5 (themes); plus Gospel examples (Temptation in the wilderness, Prodigal Son).
Patristic themes: logismoi, discernment by fruit, rejecting intrusive thoughts, guarding the heart.
👍 If this helped you, consider sharing it with someone who struggles with overthinking, anxiety, or negative inner narratives.
