Masterson describes her experience of shooting with Stanley as 'the most collaborative experience I've had.' The scene was shot over two days, with the first day dedicated solely to rehearsals. Initially a single page scene, it grew to become almost five pages, with Kubrick continually encouraging the actors to offer their own ideas.
