Maharana Sanga Chhatri – The Silent Memorial of a Warrior King | Mandalgarh Fort
In the heart of Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district lies the forgotten Mandalgarh Fort — and within it, a solemn and sacred place: Maharana Sanga Chhatri.
This is not just an ancient cenotaph of stone. It is a powerful symbol of the final journey of Maharana Sanga, the brave king of Mewar, who fought valiantly against Babur in the Battle of Khanwa. Severely wounded in battle, he was taken to Kalpi in Uttar Pradesh, where he eventually passed away. His mortal remains were brought back to his homeland, and it is said that his cremation was held here in Mandalgarh.
This site, now marked by a modest structure and surrounded by silence, holds deep historical and emotional significance. Though later believed to have been overbuilt with a Balaji Temple, no confirmed historical evidence exists of such modifications. Yet, every year, local heritage groups celebrate Rana Sanga Jayanti here to honor his legacy.
