I demonstrate eight different ways to use flat brushes in this video. I demonstrated using acrylic paint, but the general techniques work with oil paints or watercolors, too.
Here are some of the things I do with flat brushes: I cover large areas of canvas quickly (great for backgrounds!) I use them to paint straight lines (thick and thin). I paint human-made objects with straight lines, such as buildings, and things from nature such as windswept clouds, grasses, tree trunks and branches.
