The story of Percival Lowell: This Week in Astronomy with Dave Eicher 3/11/2024

The annals of astronomy are full of interesting characters, and among them is the American astronomer Percival Lowell. Even though his most famous ideas and observations — like canals on Mars and spokes on Venus — were eventually discredited, he left a formidable legacy. Not only was he one of the most prominent popularizers of astronomy and planetary science with the U.S. public, the observatory he founded — Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona — continues to be an active hub of research and outreach.
