While having coffee with his old friend Raymond Newton at the Pie Hole, “Tales of the American,” director Stephen Seemayer met Adam McAllister, a homeless man who had set up his tent at the Eastern end of Traction Avenue. Loquacious and friendly, McAllister was known to many of the artists and other residents of the area around the American Hotel. Seemayer and Newton, a photographer and cameraman, filmed this short interview on Jan. 31, 2015, for the documentary feature about the people and history that fueled the evolution of the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District.
Seemayer — with his partner Pamela Wilson — interviewed more than a hundred artists, musicians, writers and others who lived, worked and partied in and around the American Hotel and Al’s Bar. They are periodically releasing (in alphabetical order) edited versions of these interviews on this channel.
