Driving in Barbados - Warrens to St Lucy

Enjoy this morning journey to the parish of St. Lucy, starting from the busy Warrens area in the parish of St. Michael. The journey is taken along two major highways into the parish: The Ronald Mapp Highway (Highway 2A) and the Charles Duncan O'neal Highway (Northern Access Highway).

Notable locations along the way include Arch Hall, Lancaster, Mile-and-a-Quarter, Alleynedale and Crab Hill, among others. The St. Lucy Parish church, a popular landmark in the eponymous northern parish, is also featured in the video, although briefly.

Opened in 1996, the Ronald Mapp Highway was named after Ronald G. Mapp, a former politician whose served as a minster in parliament between the 40s and 60s, as well as a senator in the late 70s. The RMH was originally known as Highway 2A, and to this day, many Barbadians still call it by that name despite its official name.

The Charles Duncan O'neal Highway was originally known as the Northern Access Highway when it was completed in 1988. It was later renamed in honour of Dr. Charles Duncan O'neal (1879 - 1936), a medical doctor turned politician who fought for the rights of Barbadian workers (including women) in the early 20th century. Dr. O'Neal is one of Barbados' 11 national heroes.
