Big Daddy Wilson - Maybe It's Time

Singer-songwriter Big Daddy Wilson (born Adam Wilson Blount) has a fascinating history, from being born and raised in the small town of Edenton in 1960, North Carolina, to joining the US Army and serving in Germany, where he met his future wife and heard the blues for the first time. He fell in love with both of them and, after leaving the army, settled in Germany, following the great tradition of many American blues artists who have found more success in Europe than at home. Think of Wilson as the last to follow the path traced by champions Jack Dupree, Eddie Boyd, Louisiana Red and Memphis Slim - or even Luther Allison and Eric Bibb before they achieved success in the United States. Big Daddy Wilson grew up a “real country kid” whose family encouraged him to sing in their church to protect him from the seduction of the streets. Back in Germany he saw the power of the blues live in local nightclubs and knew he had found the part of himself that was missing. He quickly became known on the European circuit for his golden vocal tones and a compositional style that referenced not only the blues but also funk, soul and reggae. No matter what he did or where he went, however, he carried the South in his heart and injected it beneath the surface of his work. With acclaimed albums like Love Is The Key (2009), Thumb A Ride (2011), I'm Your Man (2013), Time (2015) Neck Bone, stew made a name on the European scene in 2017 and made a meandering path to finally record this hard times blues. With the release of Deep In My Soul in 2019, Daddy Wilson felt that his music and career had taken a complete turn in style. But the road is not over yet and Wilson's new album goes a few steps further: "Hard Time Blues". It is a reflection of the times we live in and all the fears that life brings... Corona, poverty, injustice and other difficulties. It also includes the different styles of Big Daddy Wilson, Blues, Soul, R&B, Country and Gospel. As Willie Dixon says, "Blues is the root, everything else is the fruit." "Hard Time Blues" is both a social statement and an incredibly soulful blues album and, in many ways, a departure from Wilson's more traditional approach to the blues in previous releases. Guided by producer Glen Scott (who has worked with Eric Bibb, Mary J Blige, Back Street Boys, Shawn Mendes and many others), Wilson and his fellow musicians have created a very versatile and sometimes surprising soundscape that allows their warm baritone to shine over Is it over there. On the track "Maybe It's Time" - soulful blues vocals with a deep, bass tone flow as this elegant track begins its journey. There are cool backing vocals that add depth to this deep Orleans musical piece, fantastic guitar licks with an emphasis on sliding chords are evident as this fantastic track unfolds as these vocals dominate the entire track. The snare drums have a deep kick with cymbal grooves to get the rhythm section in our sights, these songs bring depth and faith as Big Daddy really shows off his incredible vocals and range flowing effortlessly through this deep blues track. A few years ago, Big Daddy Wilson told an interviewer that the main reason he wears sunglasses on stage is his inherently shy nature. “I'm not an animator,” he said at the time. And, he in a way, he's right. Wilson's music as Wilson himself is real. It's honest. This album is full of love, faith and hope. It's Big Daddy's declaration of a love of life and the blues. It's appropriate to call this album the "Hard Time Blues". To reach many people with a simple message - let love into your hearts because we need each other.
