El Hayedo Montejo. Foliación. The Montejo Beech Forest. Leafing

Este vídeo pretende resumir las situación del Hayedo de Montejo cuando se inicia la foliación: la emisión de las hojas de sus árboles, a mediados del mes de abril.
Las hayas empiezan a salir de su letargo invernal. Se hinchan sus yemas, y adquieren un color rosado. Poco más tarde, se abren y empiezan a dejar emerger las primeras hojitas, de color verde claro, que en unos días se despliegan y adquieren su típica posición horizontal en los ramillos que las portan.
Como el inicio de la foliación se debe al fotoperiodo, pero también, en segundo lugar, a la temperatura, las primeras hayas en iniciar la foliación son las que se ubican en los sitios menos fríos: en el Hayedo de Montejo, las zonas altas de la ladera, debido a la inversión térmica.
Los cerezos, más precoces, porque deben llamar la atención de sus polinizadores y florecer cuando el resto de los árboles están todavía defoliados, empiezan a cambiar sus flores blancas por las primeras hojitas.
Los robles, más precavidos, para evitar las heladas tardías, suelen iniciar la foliación después que las hayas. En primer lugar, el roble albar (Quercus petraea) y más tarde, normalmente a principios-mediados de mayo, el rebollo o melojo (Quercus pyrenaica).
El sotobosque del hayedo todavía disfruta de cierta luz, que aprovechan los hayucos para germinar y emitir sus primeras hojitas: primero cotiledonares y luego, definitivas. Y aumenta el número de especies herbáceas que florecen, y de polinizadores, que desempeñan su función.
Y también inician sus tareas reproductivas las aves del hayedo.

Beech trees start to awaken from their winter dormancy. Their buds swell and take on a pinkish hue. Shortly after, they open up and begin to reveal the first light green leaves, which unfold within a few days and take their typical horizontal position on the twigs that bear them.
Since the start of leafing is due to the photoperiod, but also, secondly, to the temperature, the first beeches to begin leafing are those located in the less cold spots: in the Montejo Beech Forest, in the higher areas of the slope, due to thermal inversion.
The cherry trees, which are earlier because they need to attract their pollinators and bloom when the rest of the trees are still leafless, start to replace their white flowers with the first leaves.
The oaks, more cautious to avoid late frosts, usually begin leafing after the beeches. First, the sessile oak (Quercus petraea) and later, usually in early to mid-May, the Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica).
The undergrowth of the beech forest still enjoys some light, which the beech nuts take advantage of to germinate and produce their first leaves: first cotyledonary and then, definitive. The number of flowering herbaceous species and pollinators, which fulfill their role, also increases.
And the birds of the beech forest also begin their reproductive activities.
