Episode 10 takes an unexpected turn when the main road to Hoper Valley gets completely blocked due to a fresh landslide. Instead of returning, I follow local advice and take an alternate off-road track, leading me to a shaky suspension bridge with a raging river underneath, a crossing only bikes and pedestrians can attempt.
This becomes one of the most thrilling and nerve-tasting moments of my trip.
Along the detour, I meet and interact with friendly locals and Hoper Valley Gardener, who shows me how fruit trees and vegetables are grown in this high-altitude cold desert. Theses simple moments reveals the beautiful lifestyle of the people living under the mighty Karakoram mountains.
Eventually, I reach the Hoper Glacier View Point and then hike directly on the glacier, facing freezing winds, slippery ice, deep crevasses, and breathtaking scenery. One of the coldest yet most unforgettable experiences of my journey.
