The Black Norman Bethune of China: Diarra's Story｜黑人中医博士迪亚拉的事迹

This is the inspiring story of a black man named Diarra, who became the world's first black doctor of Chinese medicine. Diarra's journey began when he came to China to study Western medicine but was drawn to the world of Chinese medicine after witnessing firsthand how acupuncture cured children with paralysis. He switched to studying classical Chinese texts and the teachings of Taoism and the Book of Changes. Despite struggling with the language barrier and being far from his home country, he defied the odds and became a trailblazer in his field.

Diarra's dedication to his craft led him to become a rural medical officer in the mountains of Yunnan, where he spent over 20 years. Despite a lack of resources, he purchased medical equipment out of his own pocket and trained over 1,000 village doctors for free due to a shortage of assistants. The locals affectionately call him "the black Norman Bethune" after the Canadian doctor who saved many Chinese lives during the Second Sino-Japanese War.
