{فَإِنْ آمَنُوا بِمِثْلِ مَا آمَنتُم بِهِ فَقَدِ اهْتَدَوا وَّإِن تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا هُمْ فِي شِقَاقٍ}
(If then they believe as you believe in Him, they are indeed on the right course, and if they turn back, then they are only in great opposition) [2:137]
Companions of Muhammad ﷺ – A Standard Set Firm
The immediate addressees of the phrase "you believe" are the Prophet ﷺ & his blessed Companions.
The shortest yet the most comprehensive definition of “Iman - إيمان” is to believe how & what Prophet Muhammad ﷺ & his companions believed.
Thus, Sahabas’ Iman has been placed before us as a model, & the ayah is a divine commandment, laying down the fundamental principle that the only Iman acceptable to Allah is the one which was adopted by the Prophet ﷺ & his Companions, & that any doctrines or beliefs that deviate from it in the least are neither valid nor acceptable to Allah.

Neglecting this principle is the reason that people are in dissension, each one coming up with their own version of Islam defined by their whims & desires. With twisted meanings to serve their agendas.
Remember, even Christians believe in Jesus, but we Muslims believe how “Companions” believed.
If we are looking for the unity of this Ummah, then we’ll have to re-adopt this principle !!!
May Allah keep us on the Manhaj of the Sahabaa. آمين.
